Ah, the dreaded season for laundry is upon us. With the cold weather comes bundles of clothes, which means bundles of bulky laundry. As leaders in providers of professional dry cleaning in Malta, our team at Portughes Dry Cleaning have compiled a few tips on dealing with laundry during the rainy season. For those of you who’ve got a tumble dryer, this one’s not for you.
DON’T: Wash clothes as frequently
In the colder winter seasons, you are less prone to sweating, so certain clothing items such as jeans and jumpers can be worn more than once before needing to be washed. Plus, you’ll save on water bills and help minimise on negative environmental impacts.
DON’T: Dry indoors
Outdoors really is the best place for laundry to dry, so air dry your clothes if you don’t have a tumble dryer. Although it is the rainy season, it is not the norm to have more than a few days of non-stop rain in a row in Malta. So as soon as the sun is out, get as many loads out on the line as you can.
Avoid hanging clothes inside as this increases the levels of dampness and if done regularly, can lead to mould. When we leave our washed clothes indoors to dry, volatile organic compounds are released. These are harmful to our health and risk triggering skin conditions, breathing problems, headaches, sore throat and eye irritation.
Do: Turn clothes inside out
Remember to turn clothes inside out before placing them in the washing machine. This ensures the clothes’ insides take the wear and tear, buttons and sequins are kept safe from becoming loose, and thus maintaining the clothing quality.
